Upper Latin Grammar: Level 1 (Grades 7-9)

A note from the Teacher:
“This class offers students beginning to ask the ‘why’ questions of life an opportunity to discover the ancient roots of the world, redeemed by the Lord Jesus. Once they begin, I suspect they won’t want to stop. And that is precisely the goal.”

About the Class
Class Overview
Upper Latin Grammar: Level 1 serves as both an introductory Latin course for new students and a continuation course for those who have completed Latin Grammar in Grades 3–6. The class introduces Latin in a logic-driven manner, using Latin stories and puzzles, emphasizing the proper terminology of Latin grammar, and strengthening students’ ability to extract meaning from Latin texts through disciplined reasoning. New students will be introduced to the fundamentals of the language, while returning students will deepen their understanding of the grammatical principles previously learned through example and repetition.
Course Objectives
Comprehend and memorize John 1:6–18 in both English and Latin
Learn approximately 300 Latin vocabulary words
Master Latin pronunciation and confidently read unfamiliar Latin passages aloud
Accurately decline first- and second-declension nouns and understand the purpose of each grammatical case
Identify and translate basic sentence structures using standard subject–verb–object patterns
Class Schedule
Class will meet once weekly for 1 hour on Fridays from 4:30-5:30p.m., running for 13 weeks from the 1st week of September to December, with a break for Thanksgiving Week.
