Access the Ancients through our

LATIN PROGRAM

Isn’t Latin a Dead Language?

Latin, the ancient language of the Roman Empire and the academic world’s lingua franca until the 18th century, is now largely absent from modern curricula and often labeled as “dead.” While it is not the native language of any contemporary country, we believe it’s far from dead.

Latin’s Influence on English

Approximately 90% of English words with more than one syllable originate from Latin roots. In an era marked by declining reading comprehension and effective communication, we attribute this largely to the exclusion of Latin from education.

Latin’s Presence in Ancient Writings

Many foundational works of Western Civilization were originally penned in Latin, showcasing superior eloquence and teaching us the art of writing and speaking beautifully. Without access to these works in their original form, students are limited to translations, which can obscure the original authors’ unfiltered thoughts.

Latin’s Impact on Thought Processes

Studying Latin fosters critical thinking skills that have endured for millennia. Its structured system of declensions and conjugations promotes logical thought through language. While English is practical, Latin is designed for logical precision and beauty. Learning Latin equips students with these unique qualities.

The Institute’s aim is to restore this classical subject so that our children may be masters of their words for God’s glory.
